Eczema types
Eczema is one of the most common skin conditions that people suffer from in the modern world, there are many different types of eczema. Although there are many different types, most of them have similar symptoms.
Eczema is commonly also referred to dermatitis, and it affects both males and females in equal quantities. You can develop eczema at any time in your life, however children commonly develop it before they are 3 years old, and grow out of it before they are 5 years old. Studies have shown that almost 1 in 5 children suffer from eczema of one kind or another, where as only 1 in 12 adults suffer from similar conditions.
Eczema can be broken down into mild, moderate and severe forms. Eczema causes the skin to become red, dry and itchy in the mild cases. In more severe cases the skin can become inflamed, crack, scaly, raw or even start bleeding. If your eczema is bleeding and weeping a fluid then this is called wet eczema.
There is a very common form of eczema that is known as infantile seborrheic eczema, this is commonly referred to as cradle cap and generally only affects the head. However cradle cap can spread to other parts of the baby’s body.
Seborrheic eczema in adults is called dandruff and is also a very common condition, this is normally noticed in adults that are between 20 and 40 years in age.
Varicose eczema is another type of eczema that is found mainly in older people, this is caused by a reduced blood supply to certain areas. This commonly affects the legs of sufferers.
Discoid eczema is another type of eczema that normally affects middle aged people, this results in small blisters developing on the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet, this can be quite a painful condition.

Although the causes of eczema are unknown it can be seen that it is not caused by just one thing, there are actually two broad groups of eczema. Allergenic, and non-allergenic, allergenic eczema is caused by coming into contact with certain allergens.
The most common type of eczema that people suffer from is known as atopic eczema, it is thought that this type of eczema is hereditary, plus it is also associated with an increased sensitivity to certain allergens which do not normally cause any irritation to other people. People with this form of eczema also commonly suffer from hay fever or asthma.
There is currently no known cure for eczema, although with proper treatment it is possible to manage and keep it under control. The method of control depends completely upon your condition, you should seek advice from your doctor to get some tips for suitable treatment. Your doctor can prescribe topical steroid creams, steroids, topical immune-modulators, UV light treatment or antihistamines. There are several alternative treatments such as allergy testing, aromatherapy, homeopathy and acupuncture, you can also give Chinese medicine a whirl it seems to be successful for some people.
